I’m told it’s Downton Abbey. Silly spell check. (and I’m sticking with that excuse.)
Am I actually the only Christian author that has never watched Downtown Abbey?
I’m not sure if it’s the story of a group of Franciscans in a metropolitan area or some woman named Abbey who hangs out in the city’s center.
Sometimes you just have to decide not to care about certain things. This is one of them. It’s similar to my decision to skip Jersey Shore. No time, no interest, no problem.
Before all of you send me emails defending it as the best show ever to hit the airwaves I have one thing to say: Don’t waste your time. I’m not slamming the show, I’m just not going to dedicate any time to watching.
Besides – I’m working on my new television series in my spare time. I decided that I should combine my love of writing with my extensive acting background. I’ve shopped the series to several public access channels in the last month and it’s looking good. Right now I just need to finish two more scripts and a short video sample before anyone will talk seriously about the new show.
It’s called “Amish Zombie Moonshiners” and I think it’s got legs.
Later.
(Just in case you wondered, I searched for Downtown Abbey and copied the link before the page loaded. I still have no clue what it’s about.)
I mentioned earlier this past week that I was entering a contest or two. First one is now deposited on the contest server.
The Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award opened up for entries at 2300 local time. I was finishing some edits (God, please bless that wonderful publisher who told me I needed lots of work and all my honest friends) before hitting the “submit” button. I made it.
They are only taking the first 10,000 entries. I saw over 6,000 entries on the chat session. Given the math I’m glad I stayed up to submit tonight. I have a strange feeling they may be all full up tomorrow.
I’m beat. It’s hanging out around three degrees Fahrenheit at the moment. I’m hungry and need to let the dogs out one more time. But it feels really good to have this done. I will keep you posted about the results of the first round.
I’m not done revising my book, but I just found out about the contest in the last two weeks and raced the clock, influenza, sleep deprivation and a couple of voice overs to make it to the finish line for entering this contest.
I managed to trim over 16,000 words from the manuscript since I “finished” it last spring. I knew it was bloated but …
Well, lesson learned.
More blogging soon, one contest deadline yet to meet. I want to give it another polish before that comes up. Hope you all have a blessed day.
For those of you that read this far, here’s a bonus video on electric starter motors. Enjoy.
Some dogs bark. Some dogs bark a lot. Some dogs never bark for more than a moment.
But there is a special group of dogs in my life that have become known to me as “Barkey Barkerson” regardless of gender.
May I introduce to you Miss Barkey Barkerson 2013!
We’re working on it. She seemed to discover her voice this past week. I have strong hopes that she will knock it off to a reasonable level once she’s more familiar with the house and the surroundings. Just in case, I’m already investigating the “Cone of Silence” from Get Smart. Perhaps they make a mobile version.
That goes for the morning and the afternoon.
Yesterday I had to do a voice over at two in the afternoon. Home from work, deal with barking units, hit bed. Get up 3 hours later with little sleep.
Record tracks in studio (really fun, great director who I’ve worked with before. 15 minutes in and out.)
Work on novel until 1800.
Wife/dinner/dog time until 2100.
Bed. And back up 5 hours later.
So now it’s 0633, I’ve reviewed the contest rules, taken the migraine pills, fed the dogs, eaten a snack and I’m so tired I can barely keep my eyes open.
Back to bed for a few hours and then resume work on book.
This whole “author thing” is not as glamorous as the movies make it seem. Except perhaps “Lost Weekend” and “Misery.”
Later folks.
