This post was inspired by a Facebook post by a friend of mine who’s a pastor. Many of my pastor friends don’t anticipate the rapture. Heck, most of them get annoyed when it’s mentioned. I accused him of posting about it just because he hates Nicolas Cage and wanted to wreck the movie Left Behind that opened yesterday. I was joking, but we all take this stuff so seriously.
Last time I looked, none of us really understand God. We all have theories, things we’ve studied, points of difference. I’m not going to delve into the rapture here. (But I do wonder if my dog will get fed if it happens. I worry about things like that…)
This video, One Night In Bangkok is the perfect example of not knowing what we think we know. Or knowing something totally wrong. Or spending too much time googling things instead of writing sequels. Watch the video and then we’ll talk. Or I’ll talk and you’ll throw stuff at the computer.
The question is: what the heck was that video about? Was it about gay sex in Bangkok? Was it about child prostitution and human trafficking? Or was it about a chess match?
The intellectuals among you will all have different answers. But the only true answer is: Chess match. It’s from a musical written by two of the founders of ABBA (yup, managed to tie them in again) about a world chess championship game held in Bangkok.
We all do this in our lives. We interpret things the way we want, through our own lense, through our own experiences. From time to time we need to step back, put down our fists, and open our minds. This isn’t a particulary deep thought, but it’s one I need to bring up from time to time in my own life.
