Church of the… exactly what are you worshiping? — 3 Comments

  1. Joe, I’ve visited many churches across this country over many years. Much of the time I have found I’m spending the time praying for God’s Jesus’ and the Holy Spirit’s presence to manifest. I’ve listened to messages that don’t speak of Jesus at all. I’ve heard members of the congregation state that Jesus is NOT Lord, nor God etc. All I can do is pray for them all. I have seen New Age icons which are explained as “there’s some truth in them.” Truth? Must they struggle through tomes of error in hopes that there is a tiny morsel of truth in one of them? God’s precious church is daily being diluted by those it deems to restore and will it one day find itself worshiping other gods?

  2. Joe,
At Gracepoint (the church that I’m honored to serve as preacher) we observe commnuion with bread and cup. We feel we are commanded to do so. It is very important to us to stay focused on the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that the Bible clearly teaches the literal reality of heaven and hell. We rest our salvation on the Biblical/historical fact that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah (The Word made flesh…God in human form–see John 1). We believe that Jesus left His eternal glory to take on the form of a man (see Phil 2) and after his literal/bodily resurrection from the dead eventually returned to heaven as our Advocate to take His place as both the only Perfect High Priest and the spotless Lamb (Book of Hebrews, etc…). Jesus is the uneuqualed King of kings and Lord of Lords and will return bodily someday. I do not possess the divine nature He has, and must rely on His blood for my salvation, since I am unable to do anything that can save myself.
