Hey, Gang – Let’s All Go and Get Enmeshed in Syria! (Get Off My Side, John McCain)

It’s time to break the largely apolitical nature of this blog on a repeated basis and let fly with some serious opinion making. I will probably rant for a few days here and there and get it out of my system. I will intersperse the tirades with my usual content – including a contest next week – so subscribe now to win! (Box to the right – hint, hint.)

My apologies to those it bothers. But I see us swirling around the drain as a nation and I’m just the plug to – not a great analogy now that I think about it for a moment.

Let me just preface this tirade with a small statement: I’m not privy to all of the facts that our illustrious government has at its fingertips. I’m just a guy with a BA from a Land Grant University in Minnesota. I do have some background in the fun-filled world of intelligence in the Middle East. But most of all, I’m not kissing any backsides in hopes of getting put back in office/wielding power/taking over the world, Brain.

That said, I would like to point out that almost any topic on which Barack Hussein Obama, John Sidney McCain, and Lindsey Olin Graham agree on is the polar opposite of all that I hold dear. I would much rather turn the leadership of this nation over to the first three randomly selected names you could find in the Des Moines telephone directory than have these three clowns deciding our future.

Syria, a totalitarian, hereditary dictatorship for over forty years is ruled by the same charming family that has gassed and murdered its subjects for decades. Nerve gas, mustard gas, laughing gas, if they had it in a form they could deliver the Assad family let it fly at some point. This is not news. I remember reading open-source magazines like “South” back in the 1980s that talked about this issue.

And if you really want to laugh, the Muslim Brotherhood has been fighting the government there for as long as the Assad killers have held the reins. Muslim Brotherhood is not a fraternal organization like the Elks. Nope, they are a branch office of Al Qaeda.

For those who just tuned in, they are the people who attacked us on September 11th. And they are the fun folks who have taken over Egypt. And Libya. And next stop is Syria. Say, those guys in Libya and Egypt like us, don’t they? I’d ask Ambassador Stevens, but President Obama has him doing something else these days. Being dead, mainly. That’s probably because his assignment to help run weapons from Libya to the rebels in Syria didn’t work out so well. Especially since he was hung out to dry by the administration. But I digress.

Back to the Three Stooges of foreign policy.

It is being proposed that we create a no-fly zone in Syria. And arm the rebels (that sounds like a swell idea, eh?) so that they can defend themselves. Somewhere along the line we’ll scoop up all of those chemical weapons that are lying around the country and secure them. And that should be tremendously easy. Not that they are old, leaky, explosive, and guarded by armored troops. Well, on second thought, it’ll probably result in all sorts of deaths. And we’ll not get all of them. Terrorists will scoop up some of them.

But, you say, we are the best military in the world! Yes we are. But we have the most inept and cowardly leaders in the world. No half-measure is too little if your legacy is at stake. We’ll get all tangled up in the furball, lose some aircraft, have pilots held hostage, and then dork around sending in ships and troops. The ships will be shot at with silkworm missiles and the troops will be welcomed by absolutely nobody. We’ll screw the thing up so badly that it will amaze even me. And it’ll be because the people in charge won’t hit hard enough to do the job right.

You see, the Syrians and their allies, Hizbollah, have all sorts of missiles and anti-air systems. I know, I know – the Israelis kick their tails regularly. I would like to point out that for the Israelis it’s an existential battle. We really don’t have a dog in the fight. I’d advocate supplying both sides with nothing and letting them duke it out. And let the Israelis do what they are already doing – taking care of the chemical and nuclear weapons programs in Syria with their usual efficiency. We used to joke in the service that we should contract out any battle in the Middle East to the IDF because they were really good at their jobs. I’m still of that opinion.

So, if we’re going to supply anyone with anything, let’s give Israel all the toys they need. Let the Syrians keep up their civil war – heck, it’s been going on for over 43 years at this point. Let them destroy each other. None of the sides in Syria is on our side.

Will there be genocide after the civil war is over? Probably. But that’s life and has been for millenia. All we can do is pray that there is no more advanced killing of Christians. Because if we arm the “rebels” (Muslim Brotherhood/Al Qaeda) they will exterminate the Christians once they get rid of Assad. Don’t believe me? Just read their press releases. It’s kind of their “thing” if you get my drift.

As to John McCain: I honor his service in the military. I have nothing but praise for his time as a prisoner of war. He was a great man and a gifted leader in that horrible situation. But for the last 20 years he has been so enamored of himself that he has lost credibility. He doesn’t even straddle the fence, it’s a part of him. He’s been impaled on the fence of vanity.

Let’s stay out of Syria. Let’s not import 10,000 refugees (Unless they’re persecuted Christians) to the United States. Let’s not do what we did in Libya – back the enemy.

As I described it to a friend this morning we’re wading out into a South American river up to our ankles. We’re not willing to throw dynamite into the river first to kill all the bad things. Instead we’re going to wade out about 10 feet and proclaim, “Look at all the fishies!” Only when the water swirls with blood and we finally realize the fish are piranha, will we head for shore – and it will be too late to do anything but bleed and die.

Stay out of Syria. We can’t win there, we won’t win there, we shouldn’t be there.

  1. With one blink of an eye, Israel could take out the whole region. They have the intelligence and power to do it. And you know, maybe they should! They have sat back and refrained. They are the only stability in the whole area.
